Blackpool: originated in medieval times as coastal farmsteads within Layton-with-Warbeck. It took it's name from "le pull" meaning a stream draining from Marton Mere and Marton Moss into the sea near the present day Manchester Square. The peat lands through which the streams ran discoloured the water creating the name Black Poole.
